Framework:

  • Injury prevention + Performance

Do you dream of earning an NCAA scholarship? Do you think you can be a professional athlete? Do you have what it takes? I hope so. But before you answer that you should understand the numbers that MUST be achieved to realize those goals, realizing that those dreams are shared by nearly every athlete that plays YOUR sport.

Table – sport | n=professional, n=scholarships |  n = youth participation level

But what do you need to do to get there? In this post we’re only going to speak about your athletic development needs. Of course there are many intangibles that go into making an elite athlete such as …

but we’re only going to speak about you speed, power, strength and motor control – or your ATHLETIC DEVELOPMENT.

So how high? How fast? How strong do you need to be? Do your weekly practices, games and occasional tournaments get you there? Will that be enough to compete with the best?  Could you ever imagine a high level team not testing their athletes? Professional sport teams spend millions of dollars testing their athletes and hire the expertise of sport scientists to help understand the athletic determinants of sport. National athletic programs are pouring money into sport science and high performance training in order to assemble the best representation for their country.

Again there many qualities, but athleticism is a major quality that can benefit ANY athlete. And what does It cost? Not much when you compare it to the gains in sport performance.

So what do you need to do?

There isn’t a magic ratio. There isn’t a magic formula that will work for all athletes. It is a process.  It’s important to start and develop key LIFTING habits. We’ve created a tool to help road-map the process. It isn’t perfect, but it’s a start. For many athletes this will be a reality check. They’ll be SHOCKED by how far away their habits are from being ideal.

The numbers don’t lie. We’ve conducted a survey across various provincial sport athletes

Habits as an athlete: sleep, nutrition,

What do you have to train?

When do you have to train?

How often do you have to train?

Reality:

Think about the number of athletes you’ll compete against in your district, province, country; what are the top three athletes in each respective sport doing?  When on your personal habits (nutrition, work outs, hydration, sleep etc.) how do you stack up?  This isn’t an attempt to shame athletes into working harder but we certainly cannot sugar coat the reality of high performance. The simple fact is as follows: the best do more.  It is a challenge to rise well above doing the minimal and accepting the process of high performance.
