2.4 FITS Depth Standards

FITS Depth standards are extremely easy to use and it’s a great reference to help you develop athletic qualities.

Figure 18: FITS Depth Standards and Athletic Quality Reference A) Depth 1, B) Depth 2 – quarter squat, C) Depth 3; Depth 4: Parallel squat, Depth 5: Full Squat.
When FITS Depth Standards are layered with the Law of Lines, and Common Movement Problems we have a reference to see how well an athlete is controlling their body and to monitor progress. In other words, we can record how the depth level the athlete can control for any applicable movement. For example, an athlete when asked to perform a single legged squat does so perfectly up to a quarter squat (Depth 2)- no Line violation (Leg, Belt, Zipper, or Spine). But if they go below a quarter squat their knee begins to collapse inwards. In this scenario the athlete has achieved level 1 but needs to strengthen to achieve their single leg squat badge (Depth level 3 for 3 sets of 15 reps). We now have a goal that is based on depth and the Law of Lines. AMAZING!
